Flores Diving Tour - Flores Island, Indonesia
Located in South East Indonesia exactly on East Nusa Tenggara Province, and main Island of East Nusa Tenggara province with some region from west to east part. The Island is 89% people are Catholic and the rest are Protestant, Muslim, and Hindu. Catholic and Protestant was influenced by Dutch colonial in the west part and Portuguese in the east part. Although religion is hold but tradition is still strong hold by local people every regency around the Island. Traditional ceremony is running well right now. This long island lies between Sumbawa and Timor is crowded with volcanoes and mountains and hilly makes the land is beautiful landscape. There are some Volcano is active. The landscape mostly is covered by savanna in the eastern part, it’s influencing the weather why there is no much rain fall every year and in western part is covered with rain forest where is much more rain every year. The people are mostly farmer and the rest is fisherman and government officer.
Flores underwater
The island doesn’t well known internationally as a dive destination. But the geographic at the junction of the Australasian and Asian submarine ridges and between the two distinct faunal regions marked by the Wallace line it yields some impressive marine life. The coral reefs of Flores sea are amongst the oldest in the world and are mostly in pristine condition. They are recovering nicely from damage caused the 1992 tsunami however their growth could be even quicker if the authorities took action against the dynamite fishing that is painfully common in the area. Maumere in the eastern part is a real muck diving paradise, known for its endemic species and bio-diversity. There are a number of lesser known spots such as Riung along the northern coastline of Flores that may soon develop into dive resorts of their own.
